In 1986 artists James O'Hanlon and Mark Wilson met whilst working at and Afro Caribbean employment centre in Birmingham. Together with Anita Bigsby and some of their creative colleagues put together the first issue of the legendary coffee table comic 'The Fish'.

This was inspired by the US comic RAW (by Spiegleman & Mouley) and tried to offer an Indie view on British underground comic work.

The publication lasted seven issues over a few years where it grew from a hand printed local publication to a well respected adult comic having a Titan Distribution deal and a front window in the Virgin Megastore for a week.

There were a complete variety of contributors from Hunt Emerson to the famous author Kathy Acker.

The comic ceased production after changes in personal circumstances.
